3Can't Recommend ThisJun 14, 2007
As another reviewer already pointed out, the desk isn't metal. Only the legs are metal. The desktop and shelves are all made of wood, seems to be some kind of particleboard at that. All of the brackets that connect the wooden desktop and shelves to the metal legs are made of PLASTIC, except for 3 metal brackets that hold the main desktop to the metal legs. Even the slide-out keyboard shelf attachments are primarily made of plastic. The slide mechanism itself is metal but it connects to the metal legs by a plastic bracket that the metal slide is encased in.

I assembled the desk and bookshelf by myself. It took about 3 hours, and the only tools required are a #2 Phillips screwdriver and a hammer - you only need to use the hammer once, to push in a couple dowels. The included instructions are fair, I suppose, as far as instructions go. There is a toll-free phone number you can supposedly call for help, which I never tried.

Some of the screws under the desks/shelves are rather hard to reach to screw in properly. On one of the wooden shelves for the bookshelf, there was a gouge in the paint and wood that looked like it was covered over with a black marker, and there were other places on the shelves that looked like they used a black marker to cover paint or wood defects. When you try to push the shelves into place between the metal legs, the paint from the shelves sometimes rubs off onto the metal. After I fully assembled the desk, the first time I tried to move it, the CPU shelf broke off - the wood where the screws were connected into the shelf chipped off. So if you attach the CPU shelf be very careful when trying to move it.

Anyone who has heavy computer equipment should probably avoid this. I have a 17" iMac and a self-built PC in an Antec P180 case, with 2 LCDs ( a 22" Viewsonic and 20" Apple Cinema Display) mounted on 2 Ergotron LX VESA mounts. Thus far the desk seems pretty stable (except for the broken CPU shelf I mentioned), but the plastic brackets and cheap wood are highly worrisome. It also worried me when I tried to move the desk into place.

So overall, if you have light equipment and don't plan to move the desk much, it may be an acceptable option for the price. But I'd find it very hard to recommend this desk to anyone, especially if you have a lot of heavy equipment. I suppose you get what you pay for - a good, solid desk is expensive.

2Not "Metal"May 24, 2007
I ordered this desk. It is wood and not "metal" as advertised. Only the leg supports are metal. It is of average quality. If you want a real metal desk........this one isn't it. A major disappointment.

4Love itApr 23, 2007
I bought this desk a while ago and I love it!! It was very easy to put together, easy instructions. The only thing I have to complain about is that the wood screws only come in one size so when you are trying to put the keyboard holder on, it goes thru the wood so be careful when you put this piece together.
